Tips on Diabetic Diets



Many diabetic people find it hard to resist things like ice cream, brownies, or cakes covered with syrup. It becomes more challenging if a diabetic person wants to lose weight. Many of us find it difficult to control their temptation of having sweets. However, the reality is that eating sugary foods often leads to significant weight gain. Moreover, only relying on sugar free diet does not guarantee weight loss in case of a diabetic person.
Many sugar free foods contain a large amount of unwanted calories and carbohydrates. Many diabetic people have a belief that they cab lose weight by using sugar substitutes in their diet. Unfortunately, that's not true!, Some sugar alternatives used in the diet increases the intake of both calories as well as carbohydrates. For example, fructose, which is a sugar substitute, adds unwanted calories and carbohydrates in your diet.
But, diabetic people do not need to despair! There still exist a large variety of desserts, which are sugar free as well as delicious. For example, eating sugar free lemon cheesecake is a healthy substitute to the calorie-rich cheesecake. Experts recommend having nearly five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday, around 6 servings of breads and cereals, only 2-3 servings of low-fat milk or yogurt, and very small quantity of sweets or desserts.
While dining out, it is a good idea to share a meal or dessert with your partner; else you could be overload with calories. Most of the foods that contain "no sugar added" labels actually contain sugar. In fact many such foods contain as many calories as other types of food. While you can stay healthy if you eat sugar free diet, it is a good idea to follow some more useful tips on losing weight. For example, regular exercise helps you cut down on unwanted fat and calories. In addition, one should never skip breakfast as doing so can be unhealthy for you.
